Taylor Lawrence, president of Raytheon‘s missile systems business, told Defense News in an interview published Monday that the company and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency have partnered in an effort to develop a hypersonic air-breathing weapon concept.

He added the company is in discussions with DARPA regarding boost-glide weapons and is working with the U.S. Army on hypersonic projectiles.

Raytheon also discussed the potential use of hypersonic systems in missile defense efforts with the U.S. Air Force and the Missile Defense Agency, according to Lawrence.

Lawrence said he predicts such technology could enter production in three to five years due to emerging threats in the space domain.
