Raytheon‘s intelligence, information and services business has received a $59.2 million modification from NASAÂ to address additional requirements under a previously awarded contract for weather satellite ground system support.
NASA said Friday the modification increases the potential value of Raytheon’s Joint Polar Satellite System Common Ground System contract to $1.9 billion and covers a new technical baseline for the second JPSS satellite.
Orbital ATK is building the JPSS-2 spacecraft under a $253 million delivery order the space agency awarded in March 2015.
Under the latest award, Raytheon will update the Block 2.1 Command, Control and Communications system to allow the spacecraft to utilize, receive and process telemetry.
The company will also modernize the Interface Data Processing Segment and Block 2.1 Flight Vehicle Test Simulator nodes and ground link simulator, as well as connect the JPSS Wide Area Network to an Orbital ATK facility.
Work will take place at Raytheon and government facilities through Sept. 30, 2022.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration funds JPSS operations that support NOAA’s Earth observation and weather forecasting activities.
NASAÂ oversees the procurement of flight systems, launch support services and ground system components.
