An Australian company that serves the aerospace and defense markets is set to establish its flagship U.S. facility in Huntsville, Ala.
Electro Optic Systems is currently in the process of installing the production facility at 2865 Wall Triana Highway, the local government of Huntsville said Wednesday.
Phil Coker, president of EOS’ U.S. arm, said the company will support the Defense Department as well as federal, state and local governments and businesses through the Northern Alabama facility. The state will partner with the company to support business and workforce growth, according to Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Commerce Department.
EOS, which is based in Hume, a suburb of Canberra, plans to employ up to 100 personnel in full-time positions within the initial year and expand to more than 200 employees through contracts.
The company’s first U.S. facility will support the production of Remote Weapon Stations, the primary product of the company’s defense systems business.
EOS develops and manufactures robotic and remote weapons systems that feature electro-optic functions from technologies for beam directors, precision mechanisms, gimbals, lasers, optronics, software and telescopes.
State and city heads of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber and representatives from the company announced Wednesday the establishment of the facility.
