Cobham has showcased a communications terminal designed to offer internet connectivity for tactical unmanned aerial vehicles or smaller airframes via an Inmarsat satellite network.
The company said Tuesday its satcom business demonstrated the AVIATOR UAV 200 system at the ongoing the Singapore Air Show.
AVIATOR UAV features a compact lightweight design and offers access to the internet protocol-based Inmarsat Class 4 SwiftBroadband connectivity service.
Andrew Legg, regional sales director for the Asia-Pacific region at Cobham SATCOM, said the company designed the system for military, border security enforcement, public safety, commercial and scientific research applications.
The platform is built to help operators stream surveillance footage and data in real time and monitor aircraft performance beyond the line of sight.
Cobham noted that AVIATOR UAV was recently used to transfer video footage as part of an independent project by AnsuR Technologies and Barnard Microsystems.
