The Professional Services Council has notified government contractors of the potential impacts of a government shutdown on their staff and operations.
PSC said Friday those impacts include the unavailability of agency contacts to accept deliveries or offer guidance to contractors; lack of contractor personnel’s access to needed facilities on government sites; potential delay in government payments; and a full or partial “stop work order.â€
The council said GovCon firms may have to provide other work for employees during the shutdown and must prepare their staff should government work resume.
“A government shutdown has economic impact all the way down the chain for the contractor community, and companies must be prepared,†said David Berteau, PSC president and CEO.
“PSC urges lawmakers to avoid lapses in work for contractors – and in turn, lapses in meaningful results for federal government customers and American taxpayers – by fully funding the government,†he added.
The federal government shut down Saturday after the Senate voted against another continuing resolution that would fund agencies through Feb. 16.
