Concurrent Technologies Corp. has obtained a patent for a technology that works to create a seal to remove leakage in flow batteries.
The “Self-sealing Flow Frame for Flow Battery Stack†design also works to streamline the process of assembling flow batteries designed to address the need for electric grid-level energy storage, CTC said Monday.
A flow battery is a rechargeable battery that has positive and negative electrolytes and is designed to accommodate more battery stacks to expand energy storage and power capacity.
CTC President and CEO Ed Sheehan said the patented flow battery design seeks to reflect the company’s decades of experience and efforts to address challenges in energy storage and other manufacturing areas.
Dan Markiewicz, senior principal electrical engineer and principal investigator, collaborated with inventors Bryan Tipton, John Glover, Michel McCluskey, Jennifer Kronick, Kevin Weaver and Dave Berkey to develop the patented technology.
