A business unit of General Atomics has received a one-year, $30.3 million contract from the Missile Defense Agency to demonstrate passive configured MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Defense Department said Tuesday that General Atomics’Â electromagnetic systems group will showcase the capacities of Reaper drone at two Ballistic Missile Defense System and five continental U.S. tests.
Tests will occur in Alabama, Arizona and New Mexico.
MQ-9 is designed to eliminate dynamic execution targets and perform intelligence collection functions with its wide-range sensors, multi-mode communications suite and precision weapons.
MDA will obligate $7 million from fiscal 2017 research, development, test and engineering funds at the time of award.
