Gary Roughead, a member of the board of managers at the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory; and Christine Fox, assistant director for policy and analysis at JHU APL; have been named to a 12-member advisory panel tasked to provide recommendations for the U.S. defense strategy.
Congress established the Commission on the National Defense Strategy for the U.S. in July to assess the force structure and posture, missions and risks linked to the country’s defense strategy, APL said Wednesday.
The commission will also offer recommendations to the president, defense secretary and congressional panels with regard to the national defense strategy.
Roughead, a retired U.S. Navy admiral and former chief of naval operations, was appointed by Rep. Adam Smith (D-Washington), ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, to the commission.
Fox previously served as acting deputy secretary at the Defense Department and was named by Sen. Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island), Senate Armed Services Committee ranking member, to the panel.
