BAE Systems has received a five-year, $70 million contract from the Australian defense ministry for the sustainment of three Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer ships through their transition into service with the Australian navy.
The company said Friday its Australian arm will oversee the supporting industry supply chain as well as provide asset management and related services to facilitate the ships’ mission readiness under the contract.
Glynn Phillips, BAE Systems Australia CEO, said the company will build a sustainment model to support the whole service life of the ships.
BAE added the contract also works to generate an estimated 50 new jobs in Adelaide and Sydney, as the ships will be housed at Garden Island in New South Wales.
The company noted it has previously worked on other maritime sustainment projects for the Adelaide-class frigates and ANZAC frigate fleet.
