Poland is considering whether to buy Sikorsky-built S-70i Black Hawk helicopters through the aircraft manufacturer’s locally-based subsidiary PZL Mielec, Flightglobal reported Monday.
Bartosz Glowacki writes Antoni Macierewicz, Poland’s defense minister, said that he met with Mielec’s chief executive and the government looks to finalize a procurement deal by the end of the year.
Macierewicz added the acquisition will be open to all interested manufacturers but the defense ministry also considers sole-source contracts, according to the publication.
Defense News reported Wednesday the Polish government has terminated a potential $3.5 billion deal with Airbus to buy H225M Caracal military transport helicopters.
Macierewicz noted Poland’s defense ministry also considers AgustaWestland AW149 helicopters from Leonardo-Finmeccanica‘s PZL Swidnik subsidiary, according to the report by Jaroslaw Adamowski.
