The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory has appointed Michael Griffin, chairman and CEO of Schafer Corp., as well as military veterans John Allen and Samuel Locklear as APL senior fellows.
APL said Tuesday Allen, Griffin and Locklear bring leadership and expertise to the lab’s senior fellows program that seeks to address the priorities of U.S. military leaders and senior government officials through technology and policy.
“These individuals have led strategically important organizations through very challenging events and know how impactful the right mix of vision and technologies can be,” said APL Director Ralph Semmel.
Allen is a retired U.S. Marine Corps general who served as commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan and deputy commander of U.S. Central Command.
After his retirement, Allen served as senior adviser to the defense secretary on Middle East security and special presidential envoy for the global coalition to counter the Islamic State militant group.
Griffin previously worked as NASA administrator, president and chief operating officer at In-Q-Tel and head of APL’s space department.
Locklear is a retired U.S. Navy admiral who served as commander of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe and Africa as well as director of the Navy staff at the Pentagon.
