Harris, Teammates to Build Florida’s Communications Infrastructure Under Potential $700M Contract

Harris has secured a potential 14-year, $700 million contract to provide a communications network that will work to connect public safety and law enforcement agencies, public schools and other government organizations across the state of Florida.

Harris said Monday its teammates on the MyFloridaNet-2 project are CenturyLink, FPL FiberNet, Level 3 Communications, Southern Light and Verizon.

The MFN-2 project aims to link over 4,000 sites and facilitate nearly 4,700 connections with an enterprise network backbone that Harris will operate and manage from the company’s network operations facility in Melbourne, Florida.

“By implementing this state-wide communications infrastructure, Florida’s state and local agencies will be connected so they can work together… whether in emergency situations or conducting routine business,” said Carl D’Alessandro, president of Harris’ critical networks business.

The company noted that its network infrastructure will support data, video and voice connectivity for the state’s government agencies including city and county municipalities as well as provide email, internet access and web hosting services for public schools and libraries.

The contract has a seven-year base period and seven option years.
