D-Wave Systems has established a new subsidiary that will work to provide quantum computer systems to U.S. government agencies and has appointed executives that will serve on the subsidiary’s independent board.
The company said Tuesday Jeffrey Harris, chairman of the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation and former president of special programs at Lockheed Martin, will serve as chairman of the board at D-Wave Government.
Rene Copeland, director of government sales for D-Wave Systems, will also serve as president of D-Wave’s U.S. government subsidiary.
Other executives appointed to D-Wave Government’s independent board include:
- Delores Etter, member of the National Science Board and former deputy defense undersecretary for science and technology at the Defense Department
- Don Listwin, director of D-Wave Systems and founder of the Canary Foundation
- Donald Kerr, vice chairman of board of trustees at Mitre and former director of the National Reconnaissance Office
- Frances Fleisch, former executive director of the National Security Agency and special adviser to the U.S. Strategic Command
- V. Paul Lee, board chair of D-Wave Systems and managing partner of Vanedge Capital
- Vern Brownell, CEO of D-Wave Systems
D-Wave Systems launched the new U.S. subsidiary weeks after it demonstrated a 2000-qubit quantum system at an inaugural users group conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In November 2015, the company also announced plans to install the D-Wave 2x quantum computing platform at Los Alamos National Laboratory in support of quantum annealing research efforts at the national lab.
