The University of Maryland and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory have forged a strategic partnership to give the higher education and research communities access to high-performance computing resources.
UMD and the Army aim to help students, professors, engineers and researchers use technologies designed to assist in scientific discovery and innovation, the College Park-based university said Friday.
The agreement is part of ARL’s Open Campus initiative and the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads — UMD’s cyberinfrastructure platform center — will link ARL’s high-performance computer “Harold” to this environment.
“The UMD/MAX-ARL partnership provides a unique opportunity for both organizations to create a national model of collaboration in the HPC field,” said Tripti Sinha, MAX executive director and UMD assistant vice president and chief technology officer.
UMD, MAX and ARL collaborators will develop research networks, seek research opportunities and explore research applications.
ARL will first declassify and transfer Harold to a demilitarized zone before the HPC becomes available.
