A Lockheed Martin business unit has received a $45 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy in support of the AN/SQQ-89 anti-submarine warfare system.
The award exercises an option on a previously awarded contract for the production of TB-37 Multi-Function Towed Array units, tow cables, electro-optical slip rings, drogues and shipping products, the Defense Department said Friday.
TB-37 MFTA, the towed sonar receiver and component sensor, works to provide surface ships functionalities that detect, localize and engage undersea threats.
Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training will also perform engineering services to support the AN/SQQ-89, DoD added.
Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate $42.7 million from fiscal 2015 and 2016 “other procurement” and foreign military sales funds for purchases from the Navy and government of Japan.
The company will perform contract work at facilities in New York, Maryland and Massachusetts through September 2018.
AN/SQQ-89 was designed to provide surface warships with undersea/anti-submarine warfare detection, localization, classification and targeting features that utilize active and passive sonar sensor data.
