BWX Technologies has secured multiple contracts potentially worth a combined $3.1 billion to manufacture nuclear reactor components and fuel in support of the U.S. Navy‘s various nuclear propulsion programs.
BWXT said Wednesday its nuclear operations group will produce the reactor components for the service branch’s fleets of Ford-class and Nimitz-class carriers as well as Virginia-class and Ohio-class submarines.
Production will occur at company facilities in Virginia, Ohio and Indiana.
BWXT’s nuclear fuel services business will provide the naval nuclear fuel for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program as well as develop material for future naval reactor programs.
The unit will perform work in Erwin, Tennessee.
“We look forward to providing the critical nuclear components and fuel that power the Navy’s submarines and aircraft carriers and help keep the United States and its allies safe,” said Peyton Baker, BWXT’s president and CEO.
The company booked nearly $1.2 billion of the contract awards during its 2016 fiscal year and expects to receive the remaining funds in fiscal years 2017 and 2018.
