ICANN Appoints Neustar’s Becky Burr to Board of Directors

Becky Burr, deputy general counsel and chief privacy officer at Neustar, has been appointed to the board of directors at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.

Burr was chosen via an election of registries and registrars and will start her new role in November, Neustar said Friday.

“Very few people have the breadth and depth of experience across the ICANN eco-system that Becky brings to the table,” said Neustar CEO and President Lisa Hook.

“Becky’s dedication to the ICANN community over the years, her willingness to speak truth to power, and her demonstrated success in bridging differences and building consensus across the ICANN community uniquely qualify her for this role.

Burr will succeed the departing Bruce Tonkin, who served in ICANN’s Contracted Parties House the past nine years.

She previously served as the head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration office of international affairs and as a legal advocate for individual registries.

She also participated in the negotiations for the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement for the ICANN’s Registrar Stakeholder Group and has served on its Country Code Name Supporting Organization Council since 2006.
