MBDA and Boeing have partnered to study the potential integration of MBDA’s Brimstone air-to-surface missile with Boeing’s AH-64E Apache helicopter under a U.K. defense ministry contract, Flightglobal reported Friday.
Beth Stevenson writes MBDA U.K. Managing Director David Armstrong said the one-year contract requires a live test fire by the third quarter of 2016.
The U.K. army air corps seeks to build on the potential of its Apache units that currently deploy Lockheed Martin AGM-114 Hellfires missiles, the report said.
Stevenson writes that Armstrong pointed to the fire control software as the main focus of the Apache upgrade plans.
Flightglobal’s database shows the U.K. army air corps currently has 49 Apache AH1 units in service and 17 in reserve.
