The National Institute of Standards and Technology has issued a solicitation for proposals on two future institutes that will become part of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation.
Each institute will receive up to $70 million in federal funds over five years through a cooperative agreement and has to meet any advanced manufacturing need that has not been previously addressed by nine other institutes under NNMI, NIST said Friday.
“These new institutes will help to improve the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing and to fill the gap between basic research and commercialization,†NIST Director Willie May said.
The selected institutes will operate as private-public partnerships and will work to expedite technology transfer and reduce commercialization costs.
NIST will hold a Proposers’ Day for the NNMI program in Maryland on March 8 and accept proposals for the pre-application process through April 20.
