SolarCity will build and operate photovoltaic technology at nine government facilities under a power purchase agreement with the General Services Administration as part of the Federal Aggregated Solar Procurement Pilot initiative.
GSA launched the energy procurement and management effort with the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Forest Service and Energy Department, EPA said Tuesday.
The project will span up to 20 years and allows U.S. government organizations to acquire power from SolarCity in efforts to meet the White House’s renewable energy goals and save as much as $5 million on energy bills.
SolarCity will install the photovoltaic devices to facilitate generation of up to 5 megawatts of energy at nine federal office buildings located in the northern parts of Nevada and California.
EPA noted the company aims to help cut greenhouse gas emission at the properties by as much as 40,000 metric tons through the PPA.
