Alexium International Group has been tapped by the Defense Department to develop and supply fire retardant treatments for use on nylon-cotton uniforms of U.S. Army personnel.
DoD will finance the final development phase of Alexium-made Alexiflam FR treatment and expects the chemicals development firm to complete work on the product by the first half of next year, Alexium said Tuesday.
Alexium will act as a subcontractor on the contract for the military uniforms and will conduct field trials once it completes product development work.
The company also announced that Alexiflam-treated uniforms completed the Pyroman tests held at North Carolina State University in partnership with another principal contractor that aims to win a position on the Fire Retardant Army Combat Uniform program.
“The fact we have multiple prime contractor options for the FRACU program is a very important accomplishment for Alexium in our much larger military and commercial strategy,” said Alexium CEO Nick Clark.
