BoeingLogo1 EbizBoeing has been awarded a $46.7 million contract to provide tools for the U.S. Air Force to modernize a communications technology on its fleet of B-52 strategic bombers, Intelligent Aerospace reported Monday.

John Keller writes the contract is for full-rate production of seven B-52 Combat Network Communication Technology upgrade kits.

Boeing’s defense, space and security unit will also manufacture 21 retrofit kits designed to convert low-rate production B-52 CONECTs into the FRP configuration, the publication reports.

CONECT is comprised of digital displays, computer network servers and beyond light-of-sight data links and designed to help airmen coordinate with ground-based tactical air controllers during close air support missions.

Boeing will perform work under the sole-source contract in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, through May 2017.
