Tom Sheridan, senior vice president and general manager of Vencore‘s space group, has received the Von Braun Award for Excellence in Space Program Management for 2015 from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
The company said Thursday the award, named after space flight pioneer Wernher von Braun, recognizes Sheridan’s contributions in space program or project management.
“I’m so pleased to see him recognized for the significant contributions he has made to our nation and his tireless dedication to serving the United States of America both during his military career and after retirement in his civilian career,” said Mac Curtis, president and CEO of Vencore.
AIAA will present the award to Sheridan at a recognition ceremony on Sept. 2 as part of the organization’s Space and Astronautics Forum and Exposition, Vencore added.
Sheridan is a retired lieutenant general in the U.S. Air Force, where he most recently served as commander of the Space and Missile Systems Center.
He joined Vencore in 2012 after nearly 40 years of military service.
