Cisco and IBM have forged a partnership with other companies to develop and deliver Internet of Things and machine-to-machine services, PCC Mobile Broadband reported Friday.
The LoRa alliance will focus on providing M2M, smart city, sensor network and industrial automation applications through wireless area network standards, according to the report.
“In addition to IBM’s support of the LoRa Alliance, we have also released the IBM ‘LoRaWAN in C’ as open source under the Eclipse Public License, which provides a solid foundation for the development of a broad range of end devices compliant with the LoRaWAN specifications,†said Thorsten Kramp, master inventor at IBM Research.
The alliance includes Actility, Bouygues Telecom, KPN, SingTel, Proximus and Swisscom, the report says.
LoRa said its technology is designed to help public and multi-tenant networks connect different applications to the same network infrastructure, PCC Mobile Broadband reports.
