The Federal Aviation Administration has given Virgin Galactic the go-ahead to offer space travel through the company’s facilities in New Mexico and commercial chartered flights could be available as early as December, The Wire reported Friday.
Polly Mosendz writes the approval from the aviation authority includes rules on how Virgin Galactic’s space flights will operate on U.S. airspace.
According to Virgin Galactic spokesperson Jessica Ballard, the firm plans to sell tickets at $250,000 per seat, which includes three days of microgravity training and safety and emergency preparations that culminate in the actual two-hour flight.
