Parsons has been awarded the 2013 Secretarial Honor Award from the U.S. Department of Energy for the company’s work on the cleanup of the Salt Waste Processing Facility at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, S.C.
The company won the award for its development of a next generation solvent technology for the deployment of a caustic-side solvent extraction process for use in the cleanup project, the company announced Wednesday.
“We are pleased to be a recipient of the Secretarial Honor Award,” said Mary Ann Hopkins, Parsons Group president.
“Our full-scale testing and development has demonstrated it is feasible to accelerate the disposition of millions of gallons of the nation’s most dangerous legacy wastes, and we are proud of our joint collaboration with DOE on this significant accomplishment,” she added.
Parsons began the project in 2003, and with the facility about 70% complete, they are expected to start testing in 2016.
