Battelle is observing its 60th anniversary of holding responsibility over a structural design and maintenance handbook for the aerospace industry.
The Metallic Materials Properties Developmental and Standardization manual contains standards for metallic materials used in engineering and developing aircraft, Battelle said Thursday.
The handbook’s properties, guidelines and analysis methods are based on a large set of data points and the manual is intended to comply with requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration and other governance agencies.
Thirty-one industry partners are funding the technical coordination of the handbook and the development of metallic material standards after a 40-year government funding for that initiative decreased in 1997.
“In essence, we were able to keep this important tool alive by finding a whole new way to fund the activity by working with industry and government partners,†said Jana Rubadue, program manager.
Battelle works to collect data from high performance metallic material suppliers for statistical analyses.
