Microsoft has updated its Outlook mobile architecture to help meet the government security and compliance requirements of Department of Defense and Office 365 US Government Community Cloud customers. The Outlook mobile platform for iOS and Android phone users now uses a Microsoft sync technology to provide users access to S/MIME and other enterprise-grade functions and reduce latency, the company said in a blog post published Tuesday.

Keith Johnson of Leidos and Brett McMillen of Amazon Web Services discussed in an article published Tuesday on Federal News Network about cybersecurity and technology platforms that could be used by government agencies to address cyber vulnerabilities. McMillen, director of federal government at AWS, said he believes that cloud could help agencies detect and respond to cyber threats and cited the potential role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in cybersecurity.

Several industry experts have cited technology platforms and trends they expect to play a role in the federal government in 2019, Federal News Network reported Monday. Dave McClure, director of CIO advisory at Accenture Federal Services, said he expects a shift towards the adoption of hybrid cloud architectures and proactive cybersecurity measures and that agencies will improve their contact center strategies driven by artificial intelligence and increasing citizen expectations.

Cameron Chehreh, chief operating officer and chief technology officer of Dell EMC’s federal business, has said data lakes work to help federal agencies build “a consolidated and scalable agile repository” that allows them to generate insights from data, FedTech Magazine reported Friday. Chehreh noted that data lakes have the ability to take in any type of data, a feature that enables agencies to develop a mechanism to add metadata to help users with access to data lakes to easily tag and search information.

Iridium Communications’ final and eighth batch of 10 Iridium NEXT satellites launched Friday from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California aboard SpaceX’s previously flown Falcon 9 rocket. Iridium said Friday the satellites, which were fielded to orbital plane three, established communications with its satellite network operations facility after launch and are set to enter the first on-orbit testing phase.
