An RTX business has completed another live-fire demonstration of Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor, the advanced, 360-degree air and missile defense radar it is developing for the U.S. Army. The defense contractor said Thursday Raytheon conducted a series of exercises showcasing LTAMDS' integration with the Integrated Battle Command System, the radar's tracking of a cruise missile surrogate and its relay of target track information to IBCS to guide a missile to intercept the target.
MoreRTX business Raytheon, in partnership with the U.S. Army, recently conducted a live fire demonstration of the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor, the next-generation air and missile defense radar of the military service. RTX said Wednesday that the demo saw LTAMDS acquire and track a tactical ballistic missile surrogate, hand off tracking data to the Integrated Battle Command System, then guide a PATRIOT Advanced Capability - 3 Cost Reduction Initiative missile launched by the IBCS to intercept the target.
MoreRaytheon, an RTX subsidiary, and the U.S. Army demonstrated the ability of a next-generation air and missile defense radar system to acquire, track and intercept a cruise missile during a recently concluded live-fire engagement test. The Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor detected and tracked a threat-representative cruise missile target, transmitted track data to the Northrop Grumman-built Integrated Battle Command System for launch command and guided a PAC-3 missile to intercept the target, RTX said Monday.
MoreTwo technologies developed by an RTX business have shown success in detecting and defeating unmanned aircraft vehicles. In an assessment that took place during the U.S. Army’s annual summer test period, Raytheon’s KuRFS and Coyote, which make up a portion of the service branch’s Low, slow, small-unmanned aircraft Integrated Defense System, demonstrated the ability to take down multiple types of targets.
