The U.S. Air Force has flight-tested a Kratos Defense & Security Solutions-made unmanned tactical aerial platform equipped with a new autonomy core system to assess its navigational command response and basic aviation functions. The UTAP-22 aircraft flew at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida on April 29 to exhibit safe flight performance of the Skyborg ACS while being monitored by both ground-based and airborne control stations, Air Force Research Laboratory said Wednesday.

Kratos Defense and Security Solutions will perform engineering and logistics for BQM-177A aerial target systems under a new U.S. Navy-awarded $3.6M contract option that follows the completion of the full rate production effort. Kratos Defense and Security Solutions has been named a certified third-party assessment organization by the accreditation body of the Department of Defense's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program to help determine defense contractors' compliance with the new security standards. The CMMC Accreditation Body authorized Kratos to assess whether companies observe security practices that follow DOD's industrial cybersecurity requirements, Kratos said Wednesday.

Kratos Defense and Security Solutions has secured a $17.8M contract modification from the U.S. Air Force to continue helping its research laboratory arm develop low-cost, attritable unmanned aircraft systems that are reusable with minimal maintenance. Kratos said Monday it will support various efforts, including the company's own XQ-58A Valkyrie, to develop low-cost attritable aircraft technology.
