The aeronautics business of General Atomics plans to put forward a modified version of its MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft system to address the U.S. Army's requirement for an armed scout aircraft. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. head Dave Alexander made the revelation in a recent interview, saying, "We’re trying to jump into that [opportunity]."

Parry Labs will provide an Intel server-class edge computing hardware to General Atomic for use in the modernization of the U.S. Air Force's MQ-9A aircraft, a remotely piloted aircraft built by GA's aeronautical systems business. The delivery of Edge Compute Hyper and Edge Compute Autonomy systems to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. will be made under a potential $13 million subcontract award, Parry Labs said Thursday.

General Atomics’ aeronautical systems business has secured a one-year, $43.1 million cost-plus-fixed-fee order from the U.S. Navy under a previously issued basic ordering agreement to deliver a range of MQ-9A drone support services for the Marine Corps. General Atomics' aeronautical systems division and the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command have showcased various capabilities in a concept development initiative aimed at enabling AFSOC to project air power using unmanned systems from beyond the horizon. The Adaptive Airborne Enterprise demonstrations involved proving the viability of the AFSOC RPA Control Suite in managing the MQ-9A drone for future integration efforts to incorporate the MQ-9B platform into the ARCS, General Atomics said Monday.

An Advanced Air-Launched Effects platform was released from an MQ-20 Avenger unmanned aircraft system while in flight during a demonstration conducted at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah in November last year. General Atomics' aeronautical systems business said Thursday that the launch capped a series of demo activities of the A2LE platform, which covered not only flight but also manufacturing and structural testing.

General Atomics’ aeronautical systems business used an MQ-20 Avenger unmanned aircraft to demonstrate its open standards-based autonomy architecture for unmanned combat air vehicles and a U.S. government-owned communications capability, dubbed Waveform X, during a flight test in November. The live test flight held at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc.’s flight operations facility in El Mirage, California, used three L3Harris Technologies-built software-defined radios to support command and control, line of sight and data movement capabilities through the nonproprietary Waveform X platform, the company said Tuesday.
