Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ Newport News Shipbuilding division has been awarded a $23.8 million contract to help modernize the U.S. Navy‘s USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier.
Newport News Shipbuilding will help the military service procure, build and test systems for the modernization of the nuclear-powered vessel, HII said Monday.
“We first delivered the ship in 2009 and have proudly followed her service to the Navy and country since that time,” said Chris Miner, vice president of in-service aircraft carrier programs at Newport News Shipbuilding.
Work will take place at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, through November.
USS Bush is the Navy’s 10th and last Nimitz-class supercarrier.
