Raytheon‘s Standard Missile-6 has completed a new U.S. Navy flight test aboard the USS Desert Ship as part of the Naval Integrated Fire Control – Counter Air program.
The company said Wednesday the SM-6 launched from the Navy vessel and engaged a simulated, “over-the-horizon” target with off-board airborne sensors.
“The ships can now use data from remote sensors to support the engagement of targets,” said Mike Campisi, SM-6 senior program director at Raytheon.
“Sailors can now launch at threats much sooner than ever before.”
Raytheon noted that it delivered the first full-rate production SM-6 in May.
