Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson has highlighted the company’s partnership with the Energy Department, universities and industry in addressing the challenges in the energy sector and encouraging careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
Hewson said Tuesday in her address during the first anniversary of DOE’s Minorities in Energy project that Lockheed supports the agency in meeting the energy needs of underrepresented communities and developing technology for smart energy initiatives.
She pointed to the company’s work with Sandia National Laboratories and the Naval Reactors Program as well as its implementation of energy savings performance contracts.
Lockheed has also been exploring ocean thermal energy conversion, smart grid, green IT systems, wave and tidal energy and other clean energy technology, Hewson said.
“These developments are possible because different people, with unique perspectives, looked at the challenges in new ways,” she told her audience.
“Innovation is powered by diversity and fostered by inclusion.”
Hewson noted that Lockheed is looking to develop and hire talent, particularly in the STEM fields, from all sectors of society to facilitate diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
