Military vehicleThe U.S. Army and Marine Corps could issue a request for proposals for their Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program in mid-November and award low-rate initial production contracts by summer 2015, DoD Buzz reported Thursday.

Brendan McGarry writes Lockheed Martin, AM General and Oshkosh lead three industry teams that have built 22 JLTVs each under engineering and manufacturing development phase contracts awarded in 2012.

The Army seeks to acquire as many as 49,000 trucks and USMC looks to purchase approximately 5,500 vehicles, according to DoD Buzz.

Program contenders have showcased their prototype models that could replace the military’s Humvee at the annual Modern Day Marine exhibition.

Scott Greene, Lockheed’s vice president of ground vehicles, told reporters during a recent briefing the company’s JLTV is built with a four-cylinder engine and a power generator designed to produce up to 75 kilowatts of electricity for combat missions.

McGarry reports AM General developed its Blast Resistant Vehicle-Off Road truck with fuel efficiency and crew protection systems.

The Oshkosh-made Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle features a digitally controlled engine, an independent suspension system and a survivability toolkit, according to DoD Buzz.
