Northrop Grumman has signed up as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador tasked to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s initiative to promote preparedness against severe weather and catastrophes.
The company will kick off its involvement by hosting a one-hour digital gathering on Sept. 18 to discuss the topic “Overcoming Extreme Weather†at www.northropgrumman.com/extremeweather, Northrop said Wednesday.
Dr. Louis Uccellini, director of the National Weather Service at NOAA, and Dr. Marshall Shepherd, University of Georgia professor and past president of the American Meteorological Society, will be among the guest speakers at the online event.
According to Uccellini, the WRN initiative seeks to improve every nation’s response to extreme climate events through proper dissemination of information and services to communities and individuals.
“Leadership in advancing science and technology is critical to ensuring the success of the nation’s weather readiness and we applaud NOAA for leading such an important initiative,†said Ed Sturms, sector vice president and general manager at Northrop Grumman Information Systems civil division.
