A joint venture between Textron Inc. and AirLand Enterprises LLC has kicked off operational testing for its reconnaissance aircraft during a Northern Command and Kansas National Guard training exercise.
Textron AirLand LLC’s Scorpion aircraft provided multi-spectral full motion video and communications with other aircraft and ground stations at VIGILANT GUARD 2014 from Aug. 4 to 6, Textron AirLand said Thursday.
Andy Vaughan, Textron AirLand’s mission commander and A-10C pilot, used a helmet-mounted cueing system to focus on targets and manage electro optical and infrared sensors.
The Kansas Air National Guard 184th Intelligence Wing Geospatial Operations Analysis team received full-motion imagery downlink feed from the aircraft.
Scorpion also joined in various scenarios such as a simulated train derailment, chemical spill, infrastructure damage, medical evacuations and recovery operations.
