satellite airforceBoeing has awarded SSC Group subsidiary Universal Space Network a five-year, $12 million contract to support Boeing’s commercial satellite services unit’s work on the Global Xpress program.

USN said Thursday it will design and construct a Mil-Ka gateway and operate and maintain the system for the satellite program.

“Our commercial approach allowed flexibility to meet changing requirements while maintaining a focus on performance and delivery,” said John Williams, USN CEO.

The company has also partnered with SSC Chile to implement and operate the system, ViaSat to provide the antenna and related networking systems and Telefonica‘s MoviStar segment to supply terrestrial fiber.

Delivery is scheduled to begin sometime between October and December this year.
