The Telecommunications Industry Association has submitted comments to the General Services Administration on a proposal to adopt cybersecurity standards for the federal acquisition and contracting process, FCW reported Tuesday.
Mark Rockwell writes that the group urged the GSA to allow for more flexibility in its proposed contractor security rules so innovation won’t be stifled.
TIA also said that requirements should call for government workforce training as well as industry educational campaigns to address cyber risks in agency purchases, according to Rockwell’s article.
The group’s members include Dell, Intel, Lockheed Martin, McAfee and Microsoft.
GSA and Pentagon officials released a joint report in January that recommends implementing baseline cybersecurity for government contractors and developing a federal acquisition cyber risk management strategy.
