Motorola Solutions has won a potential $175 million contract to build a public safety broadband network with 4G Long Term Evolution Technology for first responders to conduct wireless data communications in and around Los Angeles, Calif.
The Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communication System Authority selected Motorola Solutions to design, construct, implement, test and maintain the 231-site network, Motorola Solutions said Thursday.
“Proceeding with this public safety broadband network for the Los Angeles region in fulfilling its goal of providing the finest public safety grade mission-critical communications to the region’s public safety professionals,” said Patrick Mallon, the agency’s executive director.
LA-RICS wants the network to cover a 4,000-square-mile region and help law enforcement, fire and health service professionals utilize computer-aided dispatch, location services, real-time video streaming and other tools.
The project received funding from the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
