A Woolpert-designed U.S. Coast Guard Air Station will break ground Tuesday at the Point Mugu Naval Base Ventura County in California and will feature a four-bay hangar, a helicopter storage facility and an administration building.
The $53 million permanent new air station will have an approximately 43,000-square-foot hangar facility and a 12,100-square-foot administration building intended for offices and conference rooms, Woolpert said Friday.
The architecture, engineering, geospatial and strategic consulting firm created the air station’s design and supplied necessary utilities, site enhancement and sanitary sewer adjustments.
The company also performed bridge engineering and design for the concrete taxiway that will connect the aircraft hangar and parking apron to the naval base’s present taxiway.
“This air station will help the Coast Guard reestablish its permanent presence in the Los Angeles area and continue its protection of U.S. waterways, ports and shorelines,” said Joseph Bissaillon, federal design practice leader at Woolpert.
The new air station at Point Mugu is slated to be finished in January 2023. Work is under one of the several multiple-award construction contracts of Woolpert with the Coast Guard.
