Germany's space agency will use a Lockheed Martin-made command and control system to track over 300,000 objects in Earth's orbit to provide situational awareness.
The company said Tuesday its iSpace system gathers data from surveillance sensors of multiple, global sources, including government, commercial and scientific community, to monitor orbiting objects.
German sensors will be tasked by iSpace to assist in high interest object and space event monitoring. The Lockheed technology is planned to work with the tracking and imaging radar, German Space Situational Awareness Center optical sensor and German experimental surveillance and tracking radar.
Lockheed also designed iSpace to alert operators on alarming space events and produce recommendations on how to address these situations.
U.S. Strategic Command has used iSpace for the Global Sentinel exercises, which aim to demonstrate international space cooperation.
