Lockheed Martin has demonstrated key systems and features of the USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul, the 11th littoral combat ship of the U.S. Navy's Freedom class, during acceptance trials held in Lake Michigan.
The company said Monday it completed maneuverability tests, a full-power run and surface and air detect-to-engage operations on LCS 21 as part of trials, as well as showcased the vessel's aviation support, machinery control and automation systems.
A Lockheed-led industry team is scheduled to deliver the ship to the military branch in early 2021 after completion of outfitting and fine-tuning work.
The Navy's newest class of warship is equipped with a Mark 110 gun, Rolling Airframe missiles and a configurable hull that can accommodate 30mm guns, Hellfire missiles and vehicle systems.
LCS vessels are built to support anti-submarine, surface warfare and mine countermeasure missions.
