The U.S. Navy has awarded Cubic a potential five-year, $9M contract to build a surface data terminal for integration onto two Nimitz-class supercarriers.
Cubic said Wednesday it will provide the Sharklink SDT as part of the military service's Communication Data Link System–Technical Refresh program. The Navy will use the technology on USS Nimitz and Carl Vinson ships.
Sharklink terminals are designed to process imagery, sensor data, full-motion videos and audio in real time.
Mike Twyman, president of Cubic's mission solutions business and 2020 Wash100 awardee, said the system will work to help the Navy personnel communicate with manned and unmanned aerial vehicle operators.
The award from Naval Information Warfare Systems Command follows a development contract the company secured in 2017.
“This is a key contract win for us and we look forward to working closely with NAVWAR to field the system on the CVNs," Twyman added.
