Jacob Noffke, senior principal cyber engineer at Raytheon Technologies’ intelligence and space business, has said that organizations should take a proactive and multilayered approach to fortify their defenses against emerging threat vectors.
Noffke wrote in an opinion piece published Friday on Federal News Network that a proactive cyber-resiliency approach entails establishing protections at multiple vantage points and assuming that threats have already penetrated system defenses.
Real-time analysis, automated threat detection and hardware-level security precautions could also support a multilayered cyber strategy needed to address heightened vulnerabilities as agencies continue to implement telework settings, he added.
“It is easy to agree on the principles, but creating real change requires collaboration to deter emerging cyber threats," said Noffke.
“True resilience requires time and resources, and can only be done if both basic cyber hygiene practices and real-time threat detection and response are seen as equally worthwhile interdependent strategies.â€
Noffke’s comments come after Zscaler reported that threats like malicious websites and phishing increased by 30K percent from January to April 2020.
