Science Applications International Corp. and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. have partnered to launch a pilot program that aims to secure customer data across a supply chain with the use of blockchain technology.
The partnership looks to incorporate an industry-standard format to process digital transactions or a "smart contract" protocol into the cybersecurity program as well as help participants monitor and analyze supply chain activity, SAIC said Thursday.
Jim Scanlon, executive vice president and general manager of SAIC’s defense systems customer group, said blockchain technology will work to help government and military personnel secure the process of transmitting sensitive and mission-critical data.
He added the pilot program will support Global Tires Program customers.
SAIC provides supply management services to the GTP under a potential $900M contract the Defense Logistics Agency awarded in December 2018.
The GTP is a follow-on program of the Tire Successor Initiative, which was awarded to the company in late 2011 and valued at more than $900M.
According to SAIC, it also worked with Microsoft to apply the latter's Azure Blockchain managed ledger service.
