Astroscale has started talks with potential clients as part of the company’s efforts to test a low-Earth satellite de-orbiting technology in 2020, Space News reported Saturday.
While the firm intends to focus on the removal of debris, Astroscale may also offer other services including satellite maneuvering capacities for military purposes.
Ron Lopez, president and managing director of Astroscale’s U.S. segment, said the company has met with Space and Missile Systems Center officials to collect information in line with space technologies.
“You might need to maneuver satellites for a variety of reasons. Maneuver is key to resiliency,†said Lopez.
The U.S. Air Force issued a request for information to seek potential sources of space industry technologies and invited selected companies to discuss their responses with SMC officials.
