The U.S. Army's Tank-automotive and Armaments Command has partnered with Allison Transmission to equip M113 armored personnel carriers with an updated propulsion system.
Allison said Thursday it will provide the X200-4A cross-drive transmission system that features a hydraulic torque converter along with a technology package designed to support propulsion, brakes and steering.
The company aims to deliver more than 300 transmission units to the service branch over the next two years.
“We are pleased to partner with the Department of Defense again to meet the stringent demands of military fleets worldwide,†said Dana Pittard, vice president for defense programs at Allison Transmission.
The Army owns nearly 5K M113 vehicles designed to support indirect fire, engineering, medical and command-and-control missions.
