Raytheon has announced a new portable technology that applies virtual reality to military training for a number of battlefield scenarios.
The company said Monday its Synthetic Training Environment Soldier Virtual Trainer puts infantrymen in a simulated platform that accommodates training with both virtual and real weapons.
STE SVT is designed to address the U.S. Army’s need for a common, synthetic environment where warfighters can train from any location across the globe. Users will use laptop-connected augmented and virtual reality headsets to access the simulated training environment.
“We are blending our understanding of training with emerging technologies – augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and big data,†said Bob Williams, vice president of global training solutions at Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services unit.
Raytheon made the technology’s announcement at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference 2019. Currently underway, the five-day event will take place Dec. 2-6 in Orlando, Fl.
