Raytheon has selected Ultra Electronics’ Gigasat subsidiary to manufacture and deliver tropospheric communication systems to the U.S. Army. Ultra Electronics said Wednesday that its Troposcatter antenna system can be fielded in any type of operation and is built to help warfighters establish secure communications within austere and harsh environments.
“Our partnership with Raytheon will ensure that the capability is readily available to provide soldiers with deployable communications tools, regardless of whether or not satellite coverage is available,†said Mark Aitken, business unit director of Ultra Electronics’ Gigasat subsidiary.
Additionally, first responders may utilize the antenna to create networks in the absence of satellite coverage and electricity to facilitate emergency rescue operations. Tropospheric scatter technologies work to transmit radio signals through narrow beams aimed above the horizon of receiving stations to develop protected communication networks.
